Dracula / Van Helsing
Project details:

Dracula is an open world monster fighting rpg in the depths of Romania. Explore the world and fight Dracula's monsters in order to restore the light from the once calm place of Romania. Van Helsing is the mini game of Dracula resembling a retro 128 bit platformer where you fight monsters collect points and beat your high score and unlock secrets.

Making this game is a big dream of mine. I first started by creating the game cover art which I wanted that Castlevania look in order to get a nostalgia feel. In order to achieve that I used Adobe's Firefly to create several images of castles and combined different elements in Photoshop to create the castle I wanted before adjusting the colors to make it more sinister and dark. I grabbed a moon and some clouds using masks to make it seamless for the back ground and giving it a red tint to add to the sinister vibe. After compositing a bunch of bats looking like they came out of the castle I put a filter on the entire image to make it look like it was painted. For the logo I wanted something simple but could be iconic so I grabbed a gothic font and drew two fangs to make it just a little bit different. After that I gave it a red highlight and outline to make it pop out from the image itself.

Frank Pumpkin was a 3D model project where I wanted to use 3D modeling AI and see how good it was. I took an image from several composited images of pumpkins I made in Photoshop and put it into a 3D AI generator. I took the results and put it into Zbrush where I made some adjustments and cleaned it up. I then made the UVs and threw it into Substance where the magic really began. Making several oranges for the base I then mat it dirty and grimy using Substances mask filters and gave the eyes an eerie green glow.

Van Helsing is a mini game I am making for Dracula. I wanted a retro easy game that people can play on the phone or arcade. Making the background for the game I pictured a graveyard in which I used AI to create the pumpkins, gravestones, and trees. The mountain and sky I made compositing images of a mountain and gradients and the then put a posterization effect so it would fit the 128 bit style I was going for.

The sprites I created the image in photoshop compositing images to get final result and then took the png file into a software called Smack Studio where I rigged the file and animated what I wanted the image to do. I then exported it as a sprite sheet to put it into Unreal engine.
